Originally a pro-audio company, Även, expanded their line after requests for headphones that honoured the quality of their electronics. In Swedish, Aven means “also”, hence the name (“Also, we sell headphones”). Conceptually, I wanted to focus on Swedish ideas of functionality and naturally-based materials. The headphones are wooden and housed in a faux-tube referencing the analog past of the brand.
For Joey’s “Drinks From Summer-Else” campaign, we were asked
to create a series of postcards and coasters that emphasized the
“Classic World Traveller, with a wink!” aesthetic that surrounds
some of their signature drinks. I was paired with a copywriter and
together we came up with the concepts and copy, after which I
concepted and illustrated looks/spot illustrations in keeping
with the feel of each destination.
After the disastrous Stanley Cup riots, the Downtown Vancouver BIA asked Spring to create a print ad to renew trust in the downtown core. With no time and no budget, we met with the client, concepted, and went to print within a matter of hours. I designed & typset the ad in
the morning, and we sent it to the Province, 24h, and the Metro
to be printed that afternoon for the following day’s editions.
We wanted to give people a flexible way to display their pride in our
city, and to force them to interact with the ad in a physical way by
cutting it out. This project was a real learning experience for me both in terms of how fast real-world projects can move, and how an idea has the power to grow and evolve. The fact that the stickers are still up almost a year later shows how a simple idea can transcend its purpose and become a part of a cultural landscape.
I loved being able to help with this project, and was thrilled to use
the power of advertising in such a positive way.
Lovechild Organics provides organic baby-food to health-focused new parents. The packaging is squeezable, making for a fun way for kids 6 mos.-and-up to interact with their food. This was the first project I worked on during my internship, and I focused mainly on conceptual development for identity and packaging. My nutritional information business card was approved by the client, printed, and is now in use.
This full-page single ran in The Vancouver Sun this
summer during my internship at Spring Advertising. Styled after old playbills, it was created to draw traffic to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park’s new “Cliffwalk” attraction. I designed and typset the ad, and was awarded a Merit for Art-Direction (along with James Filbry) at the
2011 Lotus Awards.
Mysterio’s Magic is a magic and novelty shop, family-owned and operated since 1955. The brand is not only a supplier of products, but also a hub for conversation and magic culture.
A series of posters for concerts and events
going on in and around Vancouver. The focus
was on eye-catching imagery and bold color,
as well as a nod towards old jazz posters of
the 50′s and 60′s.
